Peaky Builders transformed this Queen Anne-style Wellington home with a kitchen and bathroom renovation that blends bold design choices, clever cost-saving solutions and expert craftsmanship.
This classic Queen Anne-style home in Brooklyn has always been a labour of love for its owners. They’ve already revitalised the front landscaping and bedrooms with bold colour choices, so when it came time to renovate the trickier spaces, the kitchen and bathroom, they wanted that same energy to carry through. Their vision was clear and it was up to our team to bring it to life.
With one of the couple a former chef and the other loving nothing more than a relaxing soak, we knew these two rooms needed to deliver both precision and personality.
Custom-painted kitchen cabinetry from JB Kitchens in Resene Khaki Dust makes a strong design statement, balanced by pre-finished Snowdrift White doors that cleverly pulled back the budget without compromising style. The clients sourced standout cupboard handles online, and we happily incorporated them into the design. A full bench-to-ceiling herringbone-tiled splashback pairs beautifully with the oak herringbone flooring, creating a space with multiple wow factors.
In the bathroom, practicality and luxury meet in equal measure. Cost-saving measures, such as painted walls and reinstating the existing vanity with a refreshed splashback, balance indulgent choices like underfloor heating, a black hexagonal tile floor and a playful pop of pink tiling on the bath front. A new laundry cabinet from JB Kitchens in a standard finish tidies the space, while keeping an eye to the budget.
Not everything was straightforward. Some walls were out of plumb by up to 600mm, and the bathroom floor framing wasn’t even secured. Thanks to clear communication and quick problem-solving, our team paused for less than a day, brainstormed solutions, made the necessary repairs and had everything back up to code by that afternoon.
What we loved most about this project is the collaboration. Working closely with our clients every step of the way allowed their bold style to shine, while our team ensured the details, structure and craftsmanship held strong behind the scenes. The end result is a renovation that’s as distinctive as the homeowners themselves and a project we’re proud to have delivered.
